Eddie, Eddie, Eddie!

Thanks to all of you who hosted me while I was on vacation in Oklahoma this past weekend! I had an amazing time and can’t believe that I have friends like you!

Have you ever wanted something so much that you would do anything to make it work? Like when you buy a jacket on sale and wear it even though it’s 70 degrees outside! Or put things you really need to or even just want to do on hold so that you can spend time with someone you like? You put yourself out just a little bit to make the bigger picture better. But do you know when to stop? When is it too much for you? I learned a little bit about this while I was in Peru. One thing I learned while I was there was the importance of knowing when enough is enough. Knowing when no matter how much you want something, it’s possible that it still isn’t enough to make you happy. Sad, but true.

So why am I mentioning that? Let’s talk a little bit about relationships, something I’m really not very experienced with. Let’s say you’re dating/married to someone who you really love and you would give up anything to be with them. Would you give up any potential you have to build a strong future for yourself? Do you ever once think about yourself and where pursuing this relationship further is going to leave you? You work so hard to make things with this person work that you sacrifice your relationship with yourself. You put you career on hold or change your career path, you quit maintaining relationships with friends, you stop taking time for yourself, you go against your family’s wishes, you do everything against the grain. Not that that’s a bad thing, but when you give up so much for one person you make other areas of your life unhappy so that this one area can be happy and at the end of the day the unhappiness is going to spill over into that happy part of your life and spoil it like cheese in the sun! So I guess what I’m saying is to just think about why you’re with this person and how likely it is that in 5 years, or even this time next year, you’re going to still be happy with them and is it worth making the rest of your life not fun.

***Just so you all know, I have a couple of friends that this sounds like so don’t assume it’s you!
